A Shared Moment of Reflection and Remembrance
Join us on 8th May 2025 as Mablethorpe Royal British Legion and Mablethorpe Town Council come together with the local community to commemorate 80 years since Victory in Europe Day β a historic moment that marked the end of World War II in Europe.
This special anniversary offers a unique opportunity to reflect, remember, and celebrate the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served, and to honour the peace they helped secure.
Programme of Events:
π 9:00 AM β Flag Raising Ceremony & VE80 Proclamation
A ceremonial start to the day with the raising of the Union Flag and a proclamation by the Town Crier.
π 11:00 AM β VE80 Service of Remembrance
Gather at the Mablethorpe War Memorial to pay tribute to the fallen.
π 12:00 PM β VE80 Service of Remembrance
A second opportunity for remembrance at the Sutton War Memorial.
π 1:00 PM onwards β VE80 Celebrations at the Bacchus Hotel, Sutton on Sea
Step back in time with an afternoon of military vehicles, wartime music, food, and drink. Experience the spirit of celebration as it might have felt 80 years ago.
π 8:45 PM β 9:30 PM β Evening Festivities & Beacon Lighting
Join us on the land off Quebec Road for a gathering of community and hope. The evening will conclude with the official Lighting of the Beacon of Peace, symbolising the enduring legacy of those who gave so much.
This commemorative day is proudly supported under the Armed Forces Covenant, honouring our commitment to those who serve.
